Linen bedding is known by different names in different parts of the world. In Australia, for example, linen bedding is known as Manchester. In the US, it is known as bedding. Your bedroom will not be complete without proper linen bedding regardless of its name. The article will take you to the bed linen world with an introduction to its history, types of linen bedding, and also common sizes.

Linen Bedding Journey

Egyptian kings initially utilized bed linen around 3000 BC, when they elevated their beds and ornamented them with excellent and luxurious linen.

The Roman Empire, like the Egyptian rulers, embraced the usage of bed linen by filling their mattresses with feathers and decorating the tops of their beds with different colors such as bronze, gold, and silver. Since then, linen bedding has progressed to the point that anybody may use them, as opposed to the ruling elite in the past.

Bed linens are available in two types: fitted and flat. Fitted linen is used to make a bed, whereas flat linen is used to cover the fitted linen.

Linen Bedding Types

  • Bedspread: This linen is light and thin and must cover the entire bed. It stretches out on the bed till it reaches the floor. Chenille, wool, polyester, and cotton are the most common fabrics used to produce bedspreads.
  • Duvet: A duvet is a stylish piece of bedding that provides great comfort. It is protected from wear and tears with a duvet cover. The cover is usually decorated and contains a zip or buttons to produce a simple duvet. A duvet is the most often used American bedding as a top sheet in the UK.
  • Coverlet: These are woven linen textiles that are typically used on the foot of the bed or pillows. They are usually used at night, in small inns, and hotels.
  • Flat Sheets: Flat sheets are used as fitted or top sheets to cover the bed in most locations, while the duvet is the most often used flat sheet in the UK.
  • The comforter bed sheet, as the name implies, includes excellent materials to produce comfort. The comforter is primarily rectangular or square in various sizes, embellishments, or colors. Comforters, for example, are utilized as a top sheet in various locations, like in North America.

Sizes of Linen Bedding

Bed linen sizes are typical across the Americas. The most common sizes are:

  • Twin: 38" x 75" (96.5 x 190.5 cm)
  • Full: 53" x 75" (134.5 x 190.5 cm)
  • King: 76" x 80" (193 x 203 cm)

Unlike in the past, bed linen is now available in various styles and sizes to suit various people's preferences.
